我们要真正学到一点东西，就要虚心。譬如一个碗，如果已经装得满满的，哪怕再有好吃的东西，像海参、鱼翅之类，也装不进去，如果碗是空的，就能装很多东西。装知识的碗，就要像神话中的“宝碗”一样，永远也装不满。
We need to be modest if we want to truly learn something. For example, if a bowl is already full, even if there is something more delicious, such as sea cucumber or shark fin, they can not be added in. But, if the bowl is empty, it can be filled with many things. The bowl of knowledge should be like the “treasure bowl” in the myth, which can never be filled up.
雷锋认为自己是一株幼苗，需要不断汲取营养，向上攀跃。当他越往上攀跃，便越发觉自己的贫瘠，于是不断求知探索，勤恳向黄继光、董存瑞、方志敏等革命先辈学习。“不虚心，不知事。”保有谦卑之心，才能走得更稳、更远。
Lei Feng saw himself as a seedling that needed constant nourishment to climb up the ladder. As he climbed higher, he became more aware of his ignorance, so he kept seeking knowledge and exploring, learning diligently from revolutionary forefathers such as Huang Jiguang, Dong Cunrui and Fang Zhimin. "If you are not modest, you won’t learn a thing or two." Only by keeping a modest heart can we walk more steadily and farther.
